City Foundry STL

City Foundry STL is a 15-acre adaptive reuse of the former Federal-Mogul foundry site into a 21st century mixed-use development that celebrates creative concepts in food, commerce, and entrepreneurship, envisioning a community of innovation where ideas thrive.
The first phase of the development opened in 2021, and includes a food hall, retail space, creative office space, entertainment district and parking garages. Additional amenities include public plaza spaces, bike sharing, dedicated ridesharing drop-off, and connection to the region’s Great Rivers Greenway trail system.
The project restored the historic buildings on-site and ultimately produced an adaptable, innovative space for the St. Louis community while honoring the site’s historic past. For instance, the historic Byco Building at the northeast edge of the property was converted into a Fresh Thyme Grocery Store, a cutting-edge food laboratory, and a modern children’s playspace, creatively serving diverse tenant needs through a seamless reclamation of the original building structure.
The bones of the main Foundry structure were repurposed into the heart of the development, St. Louis' first Food Hall. Leveraging over 31,000 SF of former industrial floor space, City Foundry STL is now a vibrant food hall with room for over 20 local vendors. Additional retail, office, and entertainment options are also housed within the main Foundry structure, such as Puttshack, City Winery, and James Beard Award-winning Chef Gerard Craft's marquee barbecue restaurant, Expat BBQ. Newly constructed structures built around the historic foundry provide additional garage parking, retail, and anchor tenants like Alamo Drafthouse.
Each tenant morphed its brand to fit the overall foundry design, incorporating the industrial character throughout the site’s overall design while repurposing original materials into artwork, seating, and other new design elements whenever possible, turning City Foundry STL into a truly unique regional destination. City Foundry STL has received local and national recognition, including being ranked on USA Today’s list of 10 Best Food Halls, and inclusion on the Forbes OZ 20: Top Opportunity Zone Catalysts list.
